French Language : Grammar: looking for the subject, use “Passé Composé” and “Imparfait”, types of words. Writing: reportage and poetry. . Literature : Reading of Ponti, one novel of choice (Nov. Break ) and the novel " L'aventurier des pôles" Math: Problem solving, organize data and present it, diagrams, graphs, use of addition and times tables, multiplying and dividing by10, 100, 1000, multiply 2-3 digits by 2-3 digit numbers, divide an integer (quotient and remainder), mental calculation. Work on grids, segments, perpendiculars, parallels – Know and use the metric system. Sciences: Respiratory and circulatory systems and Measuring lengths. Geography: Cities/countries inequalities, natural and technological risks, global issues. History: Napoleonic times, France in the XIX Century English:In the Grade Five English program writing will be the focus for November and December as we have completed reading the novel "Bridge to Terabitha". Various grammar activities will be introduced to help support each child's writing. While working through the writing process; stories, compositions and reflections about the novel and holiday themed topics will be completed. The continuation of the spelling program and the use of the "Words are Important" text will be additional aids to their writing development. For fun we are learning various "Grammar House Rock" songs to be presented to the lower grades in the new year. Library: Learning about narrative and descriptive writing - Reading strategy: Identifying the most important words in a sentence and the most important idea in a paragraph Music: “Legend of Polar Mountain” musical to be presented January Physical Education: hand ball and soccer Visual Arts:Building skills and techniques in drawing a painting through the use of the elements of design and exploration of the principles of design with a focus on form, space and balance
